As promised, here is the beginning of a series of posts with a few photos of images that delighted me in Europe! First stop, England. I promise also that these posts are not meant to be travelogues, where I bombard you with tons of photos and long explanations of where we were and what we did.
This first image is of a three-dimensional plaster/cement flower I spied when I looked up under an arch in London. We had been walking around the areas where mourners were paying tribute to the Queen, when I discovered this. In the midst of the throngs headed to Buckingham Palace, I stood under the arch and snapped several photos of this and other images of flowers. They were barely noticeable on a bright sunny day, but I was thoroughly entranced by them.
This next one is an arched window on Westminster Abbey. The whole outside view of the abbey is impressive as a whole, but I was captivated by SO MUCH architectural detail! I love the look of arched windows, too. If you can, enlarge this photo and spend a little time looking at all the details. What do you see? What lines? What shapes? Colours? What do you notice running across the bottom?
The next photo was taken from another part, way up high, of Westminster Abbey. I love the repetitive designs within the circular shape. Circles within circles. Flowers within circles. Arches within circles. And then all around the big circle are figures set under arches. Can you see the arches spread across the top and bottom of the photo? If you enlarge and study this, what else do you see, as far as lines and shapes? These are the things that captured my mind as I looked.
After exploring the Westminster area (and seeing some of the Royal Family, which I did not expect), we stopped in at The Albert pub for supper. I only took this one photo, but I could not stop looking at the ceiling in this place – it was covered with ornate decoration! The top of the post and the trim at the ceiling line give somewhat of an idea of what it was like. Plus, I liked the grid of windows. Something about repetitive patterns is soothing to me.
Look at this door and the architecture around it!! I love the deep black colour; it looks so elegant. I also love the triangle above and the blocks surrounding the doorway. And then of course, we spy more arched windows in the background! This was on a fancy hotel somewhere along Edgware Road in London. A super fancy wedding was taking place as we strolled by, so it was my first sighting of typical English hats on women! So fun.
Finally, the last artistic delight image from England. We happened by Stonehenge BY ACCIDENT while driving along a motorway! First we noticed a bunch of cars parked alongside the motorway, and wondered what was going on. Suddenly my husband yelled, “It’s Stonehenge!” Because he was driving and it was only his third day of driving standard-shift in the right side of the car on the left side of the road and he needed to focus, I whipped out my phone and began taking photos. This one is blurry because I had to quickly zoom in and snap a bunch of photos, but, it shows the famous ancient stone circle! That was a fun surprise.
Stay tuned; I’ll be sharing more artistic images!
Love these the design are incredible!
I know; and we were just at the beginning of our journey then. I think that’s when I decided I’d keep looking for patterns and colours wherever my eye landed on this trip.
